Data-Driven Query Library for e-sports games
PROJECT Involvement
Product and design lead, wireframes, product managing, designing end-to-end.
Tools Used
Figma, Figjam, Hotjar, Jira, Adobe suite, League of Legends data
💪 The Challenge
Coaches of e-sports teams have to rely on game data in some format that to train and plan strategies. Currently, they do this via self-edited spreadsheets where they insert new game data and updates and then filter according to their needs. But this is very time consuming and not very visual.
❓Can we give coaches and the talent a web based tool to replace their spreadsheets, with more powerful filtering and query options. Speeding up their training and decision making with a tool that will help their competitive edge.
⭐️ The Process
- Research: Weekly user interviews with the coaches, understanding their needs and listing down frustrations. Also looking into the game data and spreadsheets they already used.
- User Personas and flows: With the pre-existing spreadsheets, it was easier to map out how the data would be better represented via a web tool. I put together wireframes of ideas and amended the flows based on feedback.
- Product Ideation: Weekly, changing the direction of the product as feedback was provided. I took the role of PM when our current one left.
- Design, Test and Iterate: Constantly update the software as per review with the coaches, as game version were updated, we added filters and new advanced search options to make strategising even better.
- Developer handover: Creating a whole new design system but with Tailwind CSS components the devs wanted to use for speed and efficiency. Testing and using the tool constantly to find any issues with it.
🎯 The Outcome
This software has completely revolutionised how our coaches worked, speeding up their processes, giving them more insights than before. Even the esports talent asked for logins so they could draft their own strategies to train with. The team went onto win championships that year and break company records
With constant comms with the coaches, I was able to change and adapt to new game releases and every Friday we released a new update that helped the coaches create many different PDF options for strategies that they could take the team down mid game while live where devices arent allowed. It was a great success all around.
