💪 The Challenge
People love playing fantasy drafts for League of Legends, and some services have rather lacking drafting options for when playing fantasy LoL. We wanted to provide a service that made drafting easy, with the most data and information, that later would allow us to create a paid for service for serious drafting fantasy players.
❓How can we best make drafting of a team on a website a good user experience (especially on mobile) while presenting all the data to users. And how can we implement a good onboarding which makes people want to pay for the advanced data.
⭐️ The Process
- Research: I researched a lot of draft tools, to understand how the fantasy leagues work. I talked to some players online to get a better understanding of what they are looking for and what factor was missing.
- Wireframing and Design: I worked hand in hand with the PM to re-design a lot of our previous functionality and create new design system to accomodate the draft feature. I took those screens to previous users online and really dug into pain points of using online draft tools. The biggest one was to make sure the mobile experience is premium as other sites lack good ux.
- Developer handover: Handing over of a brand new design system incorporating Tailwind CSS so design and dev connected well together.
- Testing and changes: As we had user feedback via our website form and using Hotjar to analyse frustrations with the draft tool, I decided to create a completely separate mobile experience than just a responsive design. I made mobile only components that made drafting a lot easier and more intuative.
🎯 The Outcome
The mobile drafting site has thausands of monthly visitors, constant users returning to play with the data and see how players will perform before a live match. I had a lot of good feedback that the mobile experience was far superior to a lot of other drafting tools. I also re-designed the whole website to give the whole brand a nice new cohesive look and feel more like a community than just a website.
